Overall great article, I’ve long been a strong believer of “make your button have a pointer cursor” but your arguments are strong and convincing!

What makes the situation more complicated in my opinion is the obvious and welcome trend towards a “button” style for both, links and actions. Material Design is a good example of this. And it makes sense since they are so much more touch friendly. How to handle the cursor problematic in this, however, I don’t instantly know. I imagine it to be really confusing if some buttons have a hand cursor, others a regular one. I’m not fully on board, as I don’t believe every person knows the difference like you do…
