Hi Jonas. You make a lot of good points and I’m with you on most of them!

I like the simple Designer label but found it leading to confusion with many other fields such as Fashion Designers, Industrial Designers, etc… You could argue that even for those it’s essentially the same craft, still that’s far from what most of us do. In that regard, calling ourselves just Designers even feels arrogant in a way. This differentiation and specification to some degree is a good thing and really common across all industries. There are Aerospace Engineers, Software Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, etc… While they all build on the same basis of engineering, this differentiation ist still valuable and useful.

I by now feel confident calling myself a Product Designer, though this description also doesn’t come without quite some confusion. While I dislike the sound of Computational, it does sum up the correct meaning rather well.
